Marc Aspland has been a photographer with The Times for 13 years, the past eight as a sports specialist. This will be his third Olympic Games, after 1992 and 1996. In recent years he has been one of the most decorated photographers on the paper, winning the title of photographer of the tournament at the 1999 rugby union World Cup, and being royal photographer of the year for 1998 for a picture of the Queen Mother at Cheltenham week. He also won the accolade of best photograph at the 1998 World Cup and his portfolio of the same year won an award from the Picture Editor's Guild.
