David Powell has been the Athletics Correspondent of The Times since 1990. This will be his fourth summer Olympic Games, his third for this newspaper. While with The Times, he has covered three Commonwealth Games, three European championships, five world championships and 11 world cross-country championships. As the newspaper's triathlon specialist, he has reported on three world championships and one European championships. Has been with The Times since 1981 and was previously Sports News Editor. Aged 48, his best running days - 2hr 26min in the 1985 London Marathon - are now a fading memory but qualified for the finals of the X Zone 10-event national gym challenge at RAF Cosford this year.
