GETTING AROUND

Prices

In contrast to most cities, where the advice is usually to explore on foot, Sydney is best seen by public transport, and it's never been in such good shape. The city measures some 44 miles from north to south and 35 miles east to west, and the Harbour alone has 150 miles of beaches, parks, islands, historic houses and gardens. To make the most of it, you'll be hopping on and off the buses, monorail, lightrail, ferries and trains, and even then, you won't have seen half of it.

Once you start using Sydney's ferries, you won't be able to stop, so get a SydneyPass which gives unlimited travel by bus, train or ferry in and around Sydney from £32. You can purchase individual components of the pass (ie: Red Sydney Explorer or Blue Bondi and Bay Explorer), but best value is the three, five or seven-day ticket. You don't have to use the days sequentially, so if you were staying in Sydney for, say, three days, then coming back after a week for another couple of days, the five day pass would be perfect.
