WOMEN MAKE WAVES

The first women’s Olympic waterpolo match went according to plan for organisers, fans and the Australian team.

Australia, one of the favorites in the six-team tournament, got two first-half goals from Bridgette Gusterson in a 9-2 victory over Kazakstan.

Waterpolo has been an Olympic sport since Paris a century ago but until Sydney it was a men only event.
