RULES IN BRIEF

  • A ball is still in play if it lands on the line
  • A ball that hits the net and lands in court is good, except at the serve, when, if the ball is good then a let is declared and the first serve is taken again
  • A double fault is declared if the server fails to land the ball correctly twice in a row, and the point goes to the opposing player
  • At the serve, a foot fault is declared if a player's feet touch the ground on or inside the baseline
  • A ball may be returned without bouncing but must be returned after one bounce in court
  • The ball must not touch a player's body, or the point is lost
  • The point is lost if the player hits the ball before it has crossed the net or if the player hits the net with the racket or any part of the body
