RULES IN BRIEF
Only the flat side of the stick may be used to hit the ball
Dangerous play: neither sticks nor ball must rise too far off the ground (the ball weighs up to 163g and sticks wielded at heads can cause serious injury)
The ball may not be hit in the air unless the player is shooting for a goal
Obstruction: players must not use their bodies or equipment to prevent other players from hitting the ball
Obstruction: the goalkeeper must not lie on the ball
Cards are issued for intentional offences, misconduct or dangerous play; a green card is a warning, a yellow card means a suspension of five minutes and a red card is used to send players off
Substituted players may rejoin the match later in the game
The offside rule has been scrapped; a player is now within the rules if the ball or a defender is ahead of him/her while heading into a position to shoot at goal
