RULES IN BRIEF
Each rally begins with a player serving the ball into the opponents'
court
Each team is allowed to touch the ball three times before it must be
returned to the opponents' courts
Players must not hold the ball when they touch it, nor can they hit the
ball twice in a row, but they can hit the ball with any part of the body
A rally is lost upon a score, when the ball goes out of play or when a
player touches the net
The team that wins a rally serves for the next rally
Partners take turns to serve but one player continues to serve until
his or her team loses a rally
Players may serve overarm or underarm, with their fists, open hands or arms
Players must serve from behind the end line but can land inside the court
from a serving leap
Only the serving team can score, each hit worth one point, which a defending
team can only win the right to serve
Players can attack from any position on their side of the court
No substitutions are allowed
Only 12 seconds' rest is allowed between rallies
