Once a player stops dribbling and holds the ball in hand or hands, he or she must keep one foot in a fixed position and pass the ball within five seconds. To hold the ball longer or to resume dribbling are violations, unless the player is attacking the basket, in which case two steps are allowed.
A penalty may be given against a player who touches, bumps, shoves or barges into an opponent.
A fouled player is allowed up to three free throws, worth a point each.
Kicking the ball is not allowed
The ball is out of bounds if a player with the ball steps on the boundary line
Players must not touch the ball as it falls towards the basket nor must they put a hand inside the rim to prevent a basket.
A goal scored as playing time ends counts if the ball was in the air when time expired.
