The world ranking list as of May 1, 2000, decides who qualifies for the Games, with performances from men's and women's world championships all important, along with results from continental championships and leading international events. Australia, as host, has an automatic right to two entries. There is a limit of three players or pairs per country in each event where all those are ranked in the top 16 in the world. beyond that up to 64th in the world, there is a limit of two players or pairs per nation. Each event must include at least one player or pair from each of the sport's recognised geographical regions; Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania and the Americas.
