FIRST WORLD RECORD FALLS TO SOUTH KOREA

South Korea notched the first world record of the Sydney Olympics after their women’s archery team beat their own combined team score world record set in Atlanta in 1996.

Their combined score of 1994 was an improvement on the record of 1984 they set four years ago. The team of Kim Soo-nyung, Kim Nam-soon and Yun Mi-jin lie first, third and fourth in the individual rankings. It is the third straight Olympics that a South Korean team has broken the world record in the ranking round.

Simon Needham of Britain finished with 641 points to grab ninth in the men’s individual ranking round while Shropshire’s three-time Olympian Alison Williamson has been seeded 20th out of 64 in the women’s individual archery competition after scoring 635 in the ranking round.
